Return of the Pumpkin People: A Whimsical October Tradition in North Conway and Jackson |
Celebrating 41 Years of Gourd-Based Creativity Across the Mount Washington Valley |
As October arrives, the towns of North Conway, Jackson, and surrounding villages in the Mount Washington Valley transform into a vibrant showcase of creativity with the annual Return of the Pumpkin People.
Celebrating its 41st year, this beloved event runs from October 1 through October 31, 2025, inviting both locals and visitors to embark on a self-guided tour of over 60 imaginative pumpkin displays crafted by area businesses and residents.
The tradition began over four decades ago when members of the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce sought to extend the tourist season beyond peak foliage.
Starting with a modest number of participants, the event has blossomed into a major attraction, drawing thousands to the region each fall.
Participants create "Pumpkin People" scenes, dressing and posing pumpkins in humorous and whimsical vignettes.
These displays range from reenactments of local legends to playful takes on pop culture, offering delightful surprises at every turn.
Maps and People's Choice Award ballots are available at local chamber offices and participating businesses.
Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite displays, with winners announced at the end of the month.
In addition to the pumpkin displays, the region offers a variety of fall activities.
For instance, Settlers Green in North Conway hosts a Fall Festival on September 27, featuring family-friendly activities to kick off the season.
Later in October, events like the Busker Festival and Boo Bash provide additional entertainment options for visitors.
Whether you're driving between villages or strolling through back roads, the Return of the Pumpkin People offers a leisurely, family-friendly experience.
Combine it with fall foliage touring, local dining, or a cozy stay, and you'll create lasting memories and a camera full of pumpkin portraits.
Don't miss this enchanting celebration of autumn in the Mount Washington Valley. |
